Job references are professionals who can speak to your skills, qualities and capabilities related to the position you are applying to.

 

Who can I ask to be a reference?

Any professional contact who knows you well and has experience working with you. You should only ask individuals you have a positive relationship with. Consider asking the people below:

How can I someone to be a reference?

  • Contact them via email, instant message or phone.
  • Explain that you are applying for a new role.
  • Briefly explain the new role (provide 2-3 details).
  • Share your resume.
  • Share the job posting.
  • Inform them of interviews you have and keep them updated through the process.

Note: Avoid asking friends, family or professors who do not know you.
